Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is one of the oldest cities in Australia. Much of the city has been well preserved, with travellers being well catered for. South of Hobart, Bruny Island is made up of two separate islands. The North island is comprised of open pastures and light bushland while the South island is home to the regions primary tourist attractions such as the Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Situated North-Eeast of Hobart, Port Arthur is a small town and former convict settlement on the Tasman Peninsula. As one of Australia's most significant heritage areas, there is plenty to see and do.

It takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic to travel 18km to Hobart CBD from Hobart Airport.

Parking in Hobart's city centre is controlled by on-street parking meters. Parking fees are displayed on the meter, and are in operation from 8:30am - 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday and from 9:00am - 4:00pm on Sunday. The price is approximately $4 per hour for short-term spaces. For longer stays, it is recommended to use off-street secured parking stations. The first 90 minutes are free of charge and then around $3.60 per hour thereafter. There are also currently no tolls in Hobart or Tasmania.
