    Car Hire Bathurst

Car Hire allows you to see more of Bathurst

The oldest inland city in Australia, Bathurst grew rapidly from a small town of farmers, into a booming centre for industry in country New South Wales. This growth was mainly the result of a gold rush in the 1950s, which saw the population increase and wealth in the area grow dramatically. Today, the city is still the centre for most business activity in the area and is also well known for its large student population, tourism, and motor racing. Auto Europe offers several pick up locations and a large fleet selection, so finding a car rental in Bathurst is both easy and economical.

Travelling in Bathurst with a Car Hire

Bathurst is a city with a strong sense of heritage, and this can be seen in the many original buildings which have been preserved, some almost 200 years old. The most noticeable of the historic buildings is the Courthouse, which was built in the 1870s. The Historical Society Museum now takes up one half of the building and is an excellent place to learn about the history of Bathurst, as well as of the Aboriginals who inhabited the land prior to European arrival. Other buildings in Bathurst which still stand in their original glory are the Holy Trinity Church, which was the first church consecrated by a bishop in Australia, as well as the railway station and gaol, which are both used to this day.

Drive your rental car just out of the city, and visit the Bathurst Goldfields. Here you can pan for gold, and see how life was for the miners in during the gold rush. The museum is located on Conrod Straight, which is part of the world famous Mount Panorama race track. The track is home to events such as the Bathurst 1000, as well as various 12 and 24 hour long races, and is a public road when not in use, be warned that speed limits are imposed though. The National Motor Racing Museum is also in Bathurst and has a large collection of both motorbike and car racing displays and memorabilia from all over Australia, a must for any car racing enthusiast.

To the south-east of Bathurst, are Jenolan Caves, a highly popular attraction for visitors to the area. Also the oldest discovered open caves in the world, guided tours will take you through amazing underground worlds. There are monthly concerts in the caves, and there is even one cave you can drive straight through with your rental car.
