The lovely city of Wiesbaden is situated along the northern bank of the Rhine River in southwestern Germany. Just north of the city lays the Taunus mountain range. The Romans were the first to discover the thermal springs of this area and then settle here around 100 AD. Centuries later, Wiesbaden still attracts those in search of a relaxing spa getaway. The name of this city translates into English as meaning "meadow baths."
A great place to see a number of historical buildings in Wiesbaden is in the Schlossplatz (Palace Square). The oldest building in the city is the 17th century Old Town Hall; today this structure is used as a civil registry office. Two other significant buildings are the Ducal Palace and the Marktkirche (Market Church). The palace is now used as a parliamentary edifice, and the Market Church is the city's tallest structure with its steeple measuring 92 m high.
