Vancouver is a paradise for the outdoor enthusiast and a great place for families and groups to travel. Set between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver has been voted one of the world's top 10 places to visit, as well as one of the top 10 places to live. Visitors don't have to leave the city limits to go fishing, mountain biking or downhill and cross-country skiing. Vancouver offers rock climbing, river rafting and heli-skiing, all a short drive from the city centre. For a bird's eye view of the city, drop into the harbour centre to visit the Vancouver Lookout, located 50 stories above ground. With 360 degree views, you'll see all the sights of the city, the mountains and the harbour below. While in Vancouver, don't miss the Museum of Anthropology, Stanley Park, Minter Gardens and Fraser Canyon. This city also has a vibrant cultural scene complete with theatre, fantastic nightlife and its own world-class orchestra.
Outside of Vancouver, there are a number of fantastic places to travel in British Columbia. Drive out to Squamish, recognised as the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada," for a wide selection of activities, or follow the Sea to Sky highway to Whistler, where you can ski and snowboard in one of Canada's finest ski towns. Alternatively, Okanagan is about a five hour drive from Vancouver and boasts a number of wineries as well as water activities during summer and skiing in the winter. After Okanagan, you can continue heading east for another five hours to Banff, Alberta, to see the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park. If you'd like to head into the United States, Seattle is just a short drive south and Portland is a few hours further down the coast. Both easily accessible and fascinating American cities!
