Drive Through Hidden Gems in Croatia

The Adriatic Sea and gorgeous Mediterranean cities of Croatia radiate romantic finesse and fun. Croatian people are warm and welcoming and Croatia itself is now a major visitor hotspot. Beautiful beaches, green lit forested valleys, and the turquoise waters beckon you to visit, play and stay.

    Bustling Markets in Croatia's Capital

The capital, Zagreb is our starting point for this journey. A humming hybrid of inhabitants, Zagreb is home to students, working professionals and even tourists. A must see is the Dolac Market behind Ban Jelacic Trg, the main square smack bang in the middle of the city. Poke your head into all the nooks and crannies, as there is always something on the move or happening, especially in the food scene. Grab yourself a tasty snack of fresh fish or a local meat delicacy, before getting into your hire car and heading south to your next point of call.

Untouched Beauty in the Oldest National Park

UNESCO Plitvice Lake National Park is a geological process, concocted of amazing lakes, waterfalls and caves. The surrounding forest is home to the European brown bear, eagle and wolf. The area feels like it is straight from a magical, Disney paradise and is a stop you will be congratulating yourself on later.

    Lap up the Luxury

As difficult as leaving Plitvice Lake may be, your next leg of the journey will take you down to the coast to the well-known city of Split. Tourist central and second largest city in Croatia, this cosmopolitan town is situated on the Dalmatian Coast and oozes luxury. Taste some of the finest seafood, barhop the local establishments or climb Split's Cathedral, which is situated smack bang in the middle of the Roman palace.

Tip: If you have time, spend the night in Split. Rest, and lap up as much of this beauty as possible.

    A Cruise with a View

The final part of your Croatian adventure is heading straight to Dubrovnik. Depending on time, you can drive along either the coastal road or the new highway, but whichever way you will end up at your final destination. The coastal road can be curvy and slower, especially in the summer months. The new highway (toll road), which begins half an hour inland from Split is generally lighter in traffic. The toss up you must consider, however, is the spectacular ocean views you could be missing if taking the highway option.

    Surround Yourself in Croatia's History

Dubrovnik is the city of history and old walls wounded with war bullets. The Old Town and Ancient City Walls are some sights you can do all in one day. Miljet is lovely island off the coast of Dubrovnik and is well worth the trip out, as is Korcula Island. The Bell Tower is a landmark not to be missed either and again, this all depends on how long you choose to stay. If you're looking to laze on the beach, then head to Copacabana, which is very child friendly. Croatia has grown to be one of the top Eastern European hot spots, for families, couples and celebrities. With medieval cities, delicious local wines and delicacies, it holds breathtaking views and water so clear, it certainly holds its own against the big players of the world.
