The drive from LA to Las Vegas starts along the coast of Los Angeles with a cruise along Ocean Avenue alongside Santa Monica beach. Take the time to look around and visit the Santa Monica Pier which is lined with shops, restaurants and a mini fair, Pacific Park, where you can ride the Ferris wheel and take in one of the most beautiful views along the west coast of the USA.
Staying in Santa Monica gives you the freedom of being outside the hustle and bustle of L.A. with more of a relaxed feel. Once you are driving along the many boulevards and streets between Santa Monica and West Hollywood you will find a lot of them are lined with iconic palm trees, or the beautiful Oak trees.
Cruise north east along Santa Monica Boulevard and you will come to the famous suburb nineties and noughties teenagers would remember the postcode for Beverly Hills, 90210. Keep your eyes peeled and you might spot a celebrity doing their day to day shopping! Take a stroll down Rodeo Drive while you are in the neighbourhood and check out all the up market shopping from Gucci to Chanel.
Time to head out of Los Angeles and drive north east on Highway 15, then at Barstow make a slight right onto Highway 40 and travel along until you get to an entry on Kelbaker Road which will lead into the Mojave Desert. The Mojave Desert is one of the smaller deserts in the USA at roughly 50,400 square miles; however make sure your car is full of petrol, your GPS is fully charged and that the drive is made during the day. Grab your camera out as well because you might be able to see some wildlife, jackrabbits, owls (which sleep during the day anyway) and bighorn sheep are well known in the area. Follow Kelbaker Road through the desert and you will come back out onto Highway 15. All up the scenic drive from LA to Las Vegas will be approx. 6 hours.
Alternatively if you want to drive from LA to Las Vegas as soon as you can, bypass the Mojave Desert and just follow Highway 15 all the way. All highways are marked well so you won't be too confused when driving on the other side of the road. The shorter driving route along this highway will be around 4 and half hours.
Once you have reached Sin City keep the car for another day. You will need it when visiting the big northern shopping outlets, which are worth your while PLUS you will need to boot space to fit in all the bargains that you buy!
