Europe is one of our favourite travel destinations, because, within a few hours, you can be in another country, exploring a new city. Let us take you on a journey from Brussels to Munich via Amsterdam and Prague, driving in a brand new Peugeot Europe lease car.
We suggest collecting your Peugeot lease vehicle from Brussels Airport and heading straight for Bruges, where two of Belgium's national passions - beer and chocolate are showcased. For a rooftop view and to try one of Belgium's finest, head to Halve Maan Brewery for a Brugse Zot. Chocoholics should head to Dumon, a tiny 400-year-old brick building on the street directly behind Market Square - you will not be disappointed. After you have stuffed your belly with chocolate, hit the road to Amsterdam.
The artistic heritage, elaborate canal system, local delicacies such as raw herring and the red light district are what make Amsterdam famous. While there are the obvious attractions like the Anne Frank Huis, Van Gogh Museum and perhaps a canal cruise, take advantage of your car and get out of the city on day-trips to explore the surrounding area.
Just a short drive from Amsterdam is a rich landscape of gorgeous countryside, castles, beaches, windmills and historic towns. Haarlem is filled with history and culture, Muiden is where you'll find old castles, fortified towns and ruins, and Old Holland can feel like being in a Golden Age painting with countless windmills, churches, farmhouses and of course, cheese. Be greeted by purple hyacinths, pink crocuses, countless varieties of tulips and bright yellow daffodils in Bollenstreek (The Flower Strip), or visit Bloemendaal aan Zee and Zandvoort aan Zee for golden sands, dunes and watersports.
It's time to pack up your Peugeot and begin the longest part of your journey, to Prague. We recommend doing this trip over approximately 4-6 days and stop into cities like Hamburg, Berlin (perhaps even a detour to Copenhagen) and Dresden. The great benefit of leasing a vehicle rather than hiring is that you can cross borders and travel on ferries with no hassle at all.
Steeped in history and rich with culture, Prague is an enduring Gothic spectacle, and no longer the hidden gem of Europe. The combination of older architectural styles and lively vibes will give you the sense of an entrancing atmosphere at night when the buildings are beautifully illuminated, and on almost every corner you can find musicians playing live music like the guitar, a classic orchestra, or even a jazz vocalist. For a lovely day trip out of the city, Karlstejn Castle dating back to 1348, is about an hour south-west of Prague. One of Czech Republic's most historically significant towns and a UNESCO World Heritage site is Kutna Hora, just over an hour's drive east of the city.
Only a four-hour drive from Prague, it doesn't take long to get to the last stop of the road trip and the start of your Bavarian adventure. While there are many museums and popular tourist attractions in Munich, there are also some great hidden gems this city has to offer. Live a little and get off the beaten path and experience some less well-known attractions. We do however highly recommend catching a Bayern Munich football game at Allianz Stadium, watch the locals surf the Eisbach River, visit the Wiener Platz market, step back in time at Café Jasmin, and dine traditional Bavarian cuisine at Augustiner Braustuben, a rooftop beer garden.
While you still have your sleek new Peugeot, take this opportunity to do some day trips out of the city. Salzburg, Austria is only an hour and a half east of Munich and the backdrop to the classic movie, The Sound of Music and the birthplace of Mozart. The Neuschwanstein Castle is a fairytale paradise and is located just 2 hours from Munich.
