So here it is, that funny week of the year where you're not quite sure of the day let alone the date. All we know is that we've eaten enough seafood, turkey, desserts, chocolate, and leftovers to last all week. It's the perfect time to take stock and reflect on all the great things about 2014.
We've posted heaps of blogs this year with travel tips, festivals and road trips to get you a little closer to your dream holiday and have some fresh ideas for itineraries.
Going back to that faded memory of the beginning of 2014, here are the most supremely, exponentially, grippingly popular blogs posted across the last 365 days, as read by you.
With a wanderlust tempting number of UNESCO recognised sites, it's no surprise Germany captured our imaginations. From Augustusburg to Zollverein Coal Mine, Palaces to Parks, the UNESCO manifesto lists some of Germany's unique, ancient and cultural assets. Read all about three road trips which stop in on many of the sites and pick the one for you. Will it be Bavarian Cheer, Natural Wonders, Savoir Vivre or maybe all three?
If you get travel sickness and white knuckles just getting to the local shops, don't read on.Scary roads aren't just part of the joy of travelling to far flung and little known places. Double digits of consecutive hairpin bends, goosebump inducing lack of guard rails and narrow roads with no way back might not be everybody's cup of tea when driving around Europe. We can only image the readers of this blog enjoy living on the edge; literally.
The trend is clear, big road trip itineraries are a popular theme. We think this is the longest road trip we've written about, and at a staggering 2,500km, the Wild Atlantic Way is also the world's longest signposted coastal touring route. Get transported from your screen through to the west coast of the Emerald Isle, practically feel the crisp ocean spray of the Wild Atlantic and just think, the next land west is all the way in Canada!
Who wouldn't love the occasional Mediterranean road trip filled with fresh local cuisine, colourful Cliffside communities and some of the world's most iconic landmarks? You can definitely count us in, and it seems that this blog was a hit outside of our office too. From Venice to the Amalfi Coast, this epic 1200km itinerary has us reaching for our passports and our wallets.
Paris is so 2013. Our most popular blog across the whole year was all about what to do in France when city cafes, discotheques and the Paris metro just won't cut it anymore. Instead, shifting glaciers, emerald canyons, beachside camping and sand dunes piqued your interest, and really, we don't blame you!
