Enjoy your holidays in the famous city of canals, resting on 117 islands spread throughout the Venetian lagoon at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea. Make the most of your time in this charming and romantic city and explore the six quarters of ancient Venice (San Marco, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce, Cannaregio and Castello) with your rental car. Take a gondola or a "vaporetti" motorboat and explore the maze of canals that make Venice a unique city with a magical environment. Discover the Basilica of St. Marks in Piazza San Marco and tour The Doge's Palace, a Byzantine-Gothic building where some of the most important decisions for Venice and even Europe were made.

Once you've toured Venice, drive inland to what was once the heart of Renaissance Europe. Stop off in Verona to see an ancient Roman arena that is still in use today, or venture to the Dolomite Mountains to taste a bit of Bavaria in the Italian Alps.

    Parking and Tolls

Cars must park on the western edge of Venice and remain there, as boats are the main form of transport. To avoid high parking charges, some visitors opt to park at Venice Mestre Rail station and take a train into the city.

Tolls on the autostrada, Italy's highway system, are required to be paid in cash. You must take a ticket upon entering, and the total cost will be calculated upon exit. To budget for your toll costs, visit and enter your route information.
