Travelling in the The Hague with a Car Hire

The heart of The Hague is the main square located in the centre of the city known as Plein, which simply means 'square' in Dutch. Park your rental car near the centre, and set off to explore the square, which is surrounded by magnificent buildings from as far back as medieval times, combined with cafes and bars, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Be sure to check out the Binnenhof, which is located right beside the square, and a courthouse dating back to the 13th century and now home to Dutch Parliament.

Just a short distance from the square you can visit a museum dedicated to one of the most famous artists to emerge from the Netherlands, M.C. Escher. Known as Escher in het Paleis, which translates to 'Escher in the Palace', and displays prints of all of his works, showing the transition from realistic sketches and works, through to his famous abstract illusions.

To see some more famous local art, jump in your hire car and head north of the city centre, where you can visit Panorama Mesdaq, one of the most famous paintings in the city. Painted in a huge cylinder measuring 14m high and 40m across, the panorama was completed in 1881 and surrounds a viewing platform from which visitors get the sense of standing on a sand dune and looking down on the city to one side and the sea to the other. The sea is in fact quite close to here, so if the weather is on the warm side, drive your rental car a short distance to Scheveningen, the area of the city where you will find beaches, resorts and cafes, popular with both locals and travellers alike.
