Situated below the Netherlands and next to Luxembourg, Belgium is one of the Benelux states. With over 35 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the country's cities are truly magnificent. The Belgians are known for living "the good life" and part of this means enjoying good food: try one of the many bistros, guaranteed to have some great beers on tap, or duck into the shops for some famous Belgium chocolates. There are three official languages in Belgium: Dutch, French, and German, with Dutch and French being most commonly spoken. Dutch is spoken in the Flanders region, and French in Wallonia.German is also spoken in the east of the region, though the number of German speakers is relatively small. The Brussels-Capital region is officially bilingual: both Dutch and French are spoken.

If you plan on visiting multiple countries in Europe, there are a few things to bear in mind. You will need to inform us of the countries you intend to visit at the time of booking and when you pick up your rental car. In general, travel across borders is permitted between west and central European nations. Each provider has slightly different rules regarding travel in to certain countries and it is advisable to make sure that your planned driving route is in accordance with any international restrictions in place. Fees may also be payable to the supplier, the main reason for this is to cover the insurance based on the safety of the area you are travelling to, and locally at border crossings.
