    Nova Scotia Coast - The Lighthouse Drive

    Located in Eastern Canada, Nova Scotia is a Canadian Province fronting the Atlantic Ocean. One of Canada's 'Maritime Provinces' there are an abundance of soaring lighthouse's waiting to be discovered. The drive covers 390 kilometres and takes you from Halifax to Yarmouth.

    Halifax, Nova Scotia - Peggys Cove

    Commencing in Halifax, the bustling capital of Nova Scotia, enjoy the lively waterfront with world class restaurants or frolic in the Victorian Era Halifax Public Gardens. Heading south west from Halifax to Peggys Cove, this quaint rural fishing community is most famous for Peggys Point Lighthouse. Established in 1868 it is an iconic Canadian image set upon the rocky foreshore.

    Chester - Lunenburg

    The tiny village of Chester is next on our self-drive lighthouse adventure. Founded it 1759 by the French, during the French and Indian War. The quaint village has a historic past and has featured in many films and TV shows. The port town of Lunenburg is our next stop, located a short distance south west from Chester. Be sure to visit the Old Town, dating back to 1753, it is the best surviving planned British Colonial settlement in North America.

    Fort Point Lighthouse

    Fort Point Lighthouse is situated in Liverpool, on the South Shore, and is the point where French explorer's deMonts and Champlain touched down in 1604. The park surrounding this lighthouse features picnic tables, informative panels and displays with a beautiful view of Liverpool Harbour and Coffin Island Lighthouse in the distance. Guided tours of the lighthouse with costume interpreters are available and allow you to step back in time to the operating days of the lighthouse.


    Driving onward to the historic town of Shelburne you can find beautiful heritage properties and preserved 18th century houses and buildings. The historic Waterfront District features galleries, antique stores and cafes.

    Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

    This brings us to the last stop on our trip. Yarmouth has a rich maritime history and a vast amount of unique attractions to visit. Wander around the Yarmouth County Museum and see the famous Cape Forchu Lightstation, known as the 'Beacon to Canada'. Rock pools dot the area thanks to the volcanic activity in the past, a truly beautiful end to our Lighthouse Drive through Nova Scotia.
