    Forgotten Something?

Hiring a rental car while you are on holidays is one of the easiest ways to get around. The freedom to travel where you want and when you want is one of the best things about car hire. In the excitement of the moment extra items or additional costs you may need or get charged, get overlooked and can cause problems when you pick up your rental car.

    • If you are travelling during winter months you always need to check if winter tyres or snow chains are needed. Even if you don't think you will need them some suppliers say renters must have these while driving in winter. Make sure you advise at time of booking where you will be travelling.
    • Child seats are another item which you need to make sure you don't forget. Rules are different all over the world so make sure you check if a child seat is needed. Even if you don't use one at home it might be applicable overseas. Some countries require children as old as 12 to be in a child seat!
    • If you are planning to travel to another country but return your car back to the country where you originally picked it up make sure to check if there are any applicable cross border fees. These fees are mandatory and charged to ensure you have additional insurance should you get into trouble or have an accident while in another country. It's also important to make sure you check whether the fee is a one off or if you will need to pay it twice, if not fees can become quite hefty!
    • Make sure to check for one way fees as well. Most people know when one way fees are going to apply but always double check as suppliers can charge fees for one ways within the same country, even within the same city. So make sure you keep an eye out while checking your terms and conditions.
    • Tolls are another important one. I know we've touched on these in the past but while driving around a new city tolls can quickly accumulate if you don't know where they are. Very rarely suppliers include toll stickers or E-tags so the additional cost is left up to you.
    • Check the city's road rules where you'll be able to find heaps of information regarding tolls including how much they are and how you can pay the tolls.

Do you think there's anything else we could add to this list? Let us know! If you're covered all these points and you're ready to book your car hire, give us a call on 1300 656 601 or simply book it online yourself!
