If you are looking at the travel space right now you many notice that travel suppliers are chirping and tweeting about 'Earlybirds'. So what is an Earlybird, and why does everyone suddenly get so excited about this travel term? The planning aspect of a holiday, particularly if heading overseas, can be almost as exciting as the actual embarkation!
Here in Australia and New Zealand, there is a general pattern to look out for when you are preparing to book your next big trip. Around mid to late September, the major airlines start to release their first round of Earlybird airfares to long-haul destinations for travel the following year. Depending on the airline's flight network, the destinations generally cover Europe, the Middle East and North America; and these Earlybird prices are likely to be the cheapest airfares you will find for northern hemisphere summertime. To lock in one of these deals, check out the booking deadline by which you need to pay in full - often around mid-November. Usually, these can be booked both directly with the airline and via a travel agent. A second round of airline Earlybirds are often realised after the first booking deadline and will be at a slightly higher price with a booking deadline early the following year, for example January 2015.
Once you've locked in your flights, start to plan what you're going to do once you reach your destination. Car hire, campervan rentals and European leasing offer complete freedom to travel when and where you choose at your leisure. As with airfares, Auto Europe gives you the chance to lock in a car hire Earlybird deal at a super cheap price.
