The oldest part of the city, which was built in the 11th century, is Castello found within the Historic District high up on a hill overlooking the city. Many of the original structures still remain, and this is a great way to begin your visit to Cagliari. Simply drive your rental car up to the district, and set off to explore the historic walls, towers, and narrow laneways that locals called home many centuries ago. Be sure to take time and enjoy the view from here also, as you will be able to see the city below, as well as much of the stunning coastline.
The main attraction for visitors here though, is without a doubt the beach!
