Hanover Car Hire

Rent Cars in Hanover

Earlybird

Hire a car in Hanover, a lively city since medieval times. Hanover has seen a complete transformation in the past century. Once home to grand manors and estates owned by royalty and nobles, the city was heavily bombed during the second World War, leading to the destruction of more than half its buildings and structures.

Reborn as a modern, well planned and highly functional metropolis, Hanover has made up for a lack of historical buildings with loads of culture, outdoor spaces, efficiency and technology to rival most cities in Europe.

Travelling in Hanover with a Car Rental

A great way to get familiar with the city once you have arrived is by visiting the icon of Hanover, City Hall. Drive your hire car just a few blocks south of the city centre, where you will find the building on the banks of Maschsee Lake, a huge manmade body of water created in the 1930s. Within City Hall you will find models of Hanover as it looked in 1689, 1939, 1945 and 2000, giving a great insight into the forming of the city you see today. Within the domed roof at the top of the building, there is an observation platform, almost 100m high. Be sure to make the journey to the top for a great view of the city.

Maschsee Lake functions as a centre for much of the cultural attractions in Hanover, as well as being the site for many festivities during the year. At the northern corner of the lake you can visit the Sprengel Museum, which is home to a large collection of modern art, and a little further north is the Hannover Historisches Museum, which houses many displays telling the history of the city since early times.

To see some more of the outdoor spaces Hanover is famous for, jump in your rental car and head further north from the lake and visit the Great Gardens of Herranhausen. Created in the 17th century, the massive gardens cover an area of more than 50 hectares, and are regarded as being amongst the best in Europe.

South of Hanover lies one of the most famous buildings in Germany, Marienburg Castle. Located just a half hours drive from the city, the castle is the largest brick gothic castle in the world and is a must for anyone fortunate enough to be travelling here with a hire car. Although damaged by several wars, the castle which dates back to the 13th century has been painstakingly restored and once again stands in all its glory.
