Sweden Discount Car Hire

Car Hire in Sweden

Sweden Discount Car Hire photoFrom a network of Viking villages thousands of years ago, Sweden has flourished into a large wealthy nation, famous for design, innovation and culture. The largest of all the Scandinavian countries, yet with a total population of approximately 9 million people, Sweden has vast spaces of undeveloped land, ready to be explored. With highways to take you to spectacular scenery throughout the year, a hire car is the perfect way to tour the country and see the famous landscape. Auto Europe offers several pick up locations and a large rental car fleet, so finding a car rental in Sweden is both easy and economical.

Exploring Sweden with a Car Hire

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, and also the largest city. Sometimes nicknamed “the Venice of the North” Stockholm is built mainly on a network of islands connected by bridges, creating quite a spectacular sight. For a great view of the city, drive your hire car a short distance east of the city centre, to Kaknastornet, a TV tower which was built in the 1960’s and for many years was the tallest building in Scandinavia. With both indoor and outdoor observation decks, the tower offers excellent panoramic views of the area.

While in Stockholm, be sure to check out the Vasa Museum, one of the city’s most popular attractions. The museum houses the Vasa, a warship from 1628 which sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. The ship was salvaged in the 1960’s and is in amazingly good condition. A short drive north of here in your rental car, you can also visit the Swedish Museum of Natural History, with many displays on the flora and fauna from this part of the world.

Jump in your hire car and head north from Stockholm to Uppsala, where you will find Sweden’s oldest national symbol. On the site of the old town, 3 large mounds containing the remains of royals were built in the 5th and 6th centuries. While the identity of those buried remains a mystery, the mounds are seen as an important part of the nations history.

Drive your hire car across to the west coast of Sweden, where you will find Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. Situated in an area known as Lakeland, you will find vast areas of lakes, hills and fields to the east of the city, and a large number of islands to the west. Here you can also visit Gothenburg Maritime Museum, home to one of the largest collections of historical ships in the world.

Sweden is famous for the scenery and natural beauty across the country. Regardless of what time of year you visit, there are scenic drives to go on in most directions. Part of the fun of visiting Sweden is exploring the land and seeing the unspoiled nature it has to offer. For those lucky enough to be travelling here with a rental car, heading off on a scenic drive is a must. Whether along the coastline or through the mountains, the pristine landscape is a treat for any traveller.
