Carcassone is located in the south of France, with easy access to several nearby cities and attractions. For some more historical sightseeing, drive your hire car out to Montagne Noire (Black Mountain) where the ruins of four more castles can be found high up on a rocky hill. Although not as well preserved as Carcassone, the castles are well worth a visit and are still quite impressive.
