Rent Cars in BudapestA true gem nestled in central Europe, Budapest is well known to travellers as a beautiful and cultured city, with a long list of attractions and a buzzing atmosphere all of its own. Settled in the 10th century on the site of a previous Roman settlement by the banks of the Danube River, Budapest was founded in 1873 when the cities of Buda on the west bank and Pest on the east united to form one city. With the amazing city ready to be explored, not to mention rural Hungarian countryside surrounding the city, your rental car will give you the freedom to see it all and not miss out on anything the area has to offer. Auto Europe offers several pick up locations and a large fleet selection, so finding a car rental in Budapest is both easy and economical. Touring Budapest with a Car RentalOn arrival into Budapest, tourists soon understand why the city is so highly regarded among travellers. Historical buildings dominate the city, with detailed stonework and unique style incorporated on countless buildings. Simply driving your rental car along the shores of the Danube will reveal a spectacular view of the buildings lining the shore on the opposite side. A great way to get your bearings and see the city from up high is to drive your hire car up to the ruins of Citadella on Gellert Hill, which is located on the western side of the Danube. From up here you will be able to see virtually the whole city centre across the river. Head a short distance north from here, where you can visit the famous Buda Castle. Built in the 14th century, the castle features amazing architecture and also contains 3 great museums, definitely worth a visit. Drive your rental car across one of the bridges near here, and visit some of the attractions located in the centre of the city on the Pest side. The Hungarian Parliament building, built at the end of the 19th century in a decorated Gothic style, is definitely an impressive site. At over 96m tall and 268 metres long, it is to this day the second largest Parliament building in Europe. A few blocks in from here you can visit another of the citys grand buildings, the Dohany Street Synagogue. Built in the 1850s and then extensively restored after WWII and the communist government, the Synagogue is the largest in Europe and a very impressive sight indeed. Other great buildings to visit in the city include the St Elizabeth, St Anne, St Stephen and Matthias Churches, all of which feature amazing stonework and decorated with great art. Also a must for art fans is the Budapest Museum of Fine Art, located near the river on the Buda side. Built around 1900, the museum houses over 100,000 works of art, almost all of which has come from outside Hungary, just one of many great attractions drawing visitors to this magnificent city.
