Adelaide Car Hire

Car Rental in Adelaide

Adelaide lies on the southern coast of Australia, in between the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Great Australian Bite. The only city of decent size in a very large area of land, it is the centre of all activity in the area, and is a short drive from most things of interest. Unlike most other Australian Coastal Cities, which have reef life and forests, Adelaide is surrounded by lush hills and deserts, and has a relatively barren marine world, noted for large numbers of whales and sharks. For this reason Adelaide has developed an amazing culture and festive spirit that is not seen anywhere else in Australia.

The city is popular with many tourists, with the majority using a hire car to visit the sights and sounds of the area. Auto Europe offers several pick up locations and a large fleet selection, so finding a car rental in Adelaide is both easy and economical.

Travelling in Adelaide with a Car Hire

Although there are pristine sandy beaches close to Adelaide, most tourists visit the city for other reasons, mainly the scenery and culture. A short drive north in your hire car, you will reach the stunning Flinders Ranges, a true outback mountain range, with spectacular lookouts and native desert wildlife. The area surrounding Adelaide is a vast contrast to the ranges and desert, with lush hills lining the landscape. The lookout at Mt Lofty Summit is particularly worth a visit. Here you will get a panoramic view of the city and surrounding areas. A short drive from Adelaide you will find a number of valleys filled with wineries. The main regions are McLaren Valley, Clare Valley and Barossa Valleys. All of them are close enough to Adelaide to be a convenient day trip.

The city was the first that was built to house non-convict settlers to Australia, and has a rich and interesting History. To learn a little about the area drive your car rental to the Museum of South Australia, which is found on North Terrace, one of the main streets in Adelaide. On the same street you will find the Botanic Gardens, which are popular with visitors also. The city also has a cosmopolitan style with a mixture of nationalities and cultures. Chinatown is visited by many tourists each year, and a short drive in your car hire out of the city is Hanhndorff, a German village with a chocolate factory and berry farms.

Just a short drive south in your rental car, Victor Harbor is a small city popular for holidays with Adelaide locals as well as visitors from outside the area. Here you can enjoy more beaches, learn about the local whaling industry of the 1800s, and visit Granite Island, where you can see the local penguins. The Island is linked with to the mainland with a bridge, and a horse drawn tram system takes visitors in between. This is one of the last horse drawn trams in the world and is very popular with young and old alike.
